Can Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine help me?

YES!!  Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine represent an ancient healing art dating back over 2500 years.  For centuries, Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine have been a complete form of medicine able to treat any ailment short of emergency medical situations.

How Does Acupuncture Work?
Modern Western medicine cannot completely explain how acupuncture works.  Traditional acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories of the flow of Qi (energy) through Meridians or pathways that span the body. Acupuncture uses small, thin, disposable needles to regulate Qi flow restoring the harmonious energetic balance of the body which can relieve pain, and stimulate the body's internal organs to improve function and promote health and well being.

Do I have to believe in Acupuncture and “Qi” for it to work?
No.  Acupuncture has been scientifically proven to be effective.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine is an empirically based system of medicine designed to enhance the body's natural healing abilities. TCM combines acupuncture with bodywork, herbal therapies and lifestyle recommendations to help you achieve maximum health. A safe, reliable and effective form of medicine, it has been practiced for over 2500 years to keep people healthy.

Are the needles clean?
Yes.  Rebecca uses individually packaged one-time use only disposable and sterilized steel needles. There is no risk of transmitting a communicable disease using such needles.

Does acupuncture hurt? What will I feel?

Acupuncture stimulates the movement of Qi and everyone’s experience of Qi is different.  You may feel a sensation of heaviness, perhaps a slight distention around the needle or traveling up or down the affected Meridian (energy pathway). Some people can feel the needles being inserted and some cannot.  If you experience any discomfort, it is usually mild and not considered painful.

What do I wear?

For acupuncture sessions, please wear comfortable clothing that can  easily roll up to the knees and elbows.  For Sotai/Tuina sessions please wear light comfortable clothing that moves freely.

What can I expect after a treatment? How much treatment do I need?
Dramatic results are unusual after a single treatment but not unheard of. Most patients will experience a gradual relief of their symptom(s) or improvement of well-being over a course of therapy.  In China a “course” of treatment is traditionally 10 treatments in 10 days.  Here in the US this is difficult to achieve due to financial and time constraints.  Most patients receive treatment once a week for 1-3 months but the course and frequency of treatment can vary based on your individual needs.  Rebecca will work carefully with you to determine the best course of treatment based on your needs and lifestyle.
